I was born and grew up in Greenock,
Scotland.
I graduated from Glasgow School
of Art in 1982 and after a few years of travelling, painting and
a variety of jobs began training as an art therapist in 1986 at St.Albans
in Hertfordshire.
Since training as an art therapist
I have worked in psychiatric services, social services and the voluntary
sector in the area of trauma and recovery. I have worked as an art
therapist, counsellor, consultant, trainer, advocate, development
officer, manager and political campaigner.
From 1999 to 2001 I was a tutor and course coordinator
for the Art Therapy Certificate course at Glasgow University.
From 2004 to 2006 I was tutor and lecturer on
MSc Art Therapy training course at Queen Margaret University College
Edinburgh.
I am a member of two cross-party
groups on issues of violence against women and children at the Scottish
Parliament.
At present I am Operations Manager
with Safe Space in Dunfermline, Fife www.safe-space.co.uk.
